Ive had Dexter 2 years now, he has tamed alot since last year, i think he was rather shy chinny.
I can not pick him up, i tried to just other day started making noises at me.

Any thoughts/ideas?
I want a cuddle! lol

99% of chins don't like being picked up I'm afraid. Most will like tickles and scritches as long as they are free to move away if they want to. You have to remember chins are prey animals so being held can stress them. :)

Is the chin comfortable enough to sit on you on their own?

While sitting down

Start by feeding the chin while they are sitting on your leg. If they don't grab the food and run away move on to petting the chin while they eat on you.

If all this works well you can move onto creating a cradle in your arms(still sitting down) and offer the chin a treat to eat in the cradle.

I don't pick up my chin but I can get him to come into my arms and sit to eat a treat or jump up on my shoulder and eat a treat (once again I am still in the seated position)

These are baby steps toward what you are looking for.

Don't get discourage it all depends on their mood as well, sometimes Gizmo will eat while sitting on me, sometimes we will take the treat and run away.

To Diane's point you may never be able to pick up you chin but you can increase their comfort around you.

Yeah sorry have to agree with Dianne. You may never be able to pick him up like a cat or dog. You can getthem quite tame around you. I dont get to cuddle mine but they will sit on my knee & be stroked !

thank you for the replies.

such shame you cant, there is times doing so would make life easier lol.

Yes he has started to happily sit on me & my other half, he scared me half to death other day, just jumped on me while sitting on sofa sat on my shoulder. He jumps on my other half alot, nibbles his nose haha.

He will let me stroke him but this only started to be a recent thing.
