My chinchilla is a girl and has something wrong with her lef eye. It is shut and has alot of crusty white stuff on the edge of er eyes like humans get. I am not sure what to do. I notice it yesterday and fogured it would go away, however it seems worse. I held her still and my friend cleaned it up. Other than that, she seems fine. She is eating hay, her food, treats, taking dust baths, drinking, and using the bathroom. I considered calling a Vet. They werent available until 4 days from now. Should i take her to a different vet tomorrow to grt more attention? What should i do? Please help. Thanks!

She sounds like she might need antibiotics so you do need to get her to a vet. :)

One of my chinchillas has had the same problem continuous for the last year and has been on numerous different eye drops. I am taking her to an exotic animal vet tomorrow who will hopefully be able to sort this out once and for all

It may be a good idea to get the exotics vet to xray the teeth roots as that's a long time to have eye trouble Lorraine. Hopefully it's just something like not closing eyes when sand bathing.

I agree with Diane - any persistant eye infection should be investigated via x-ray. One of my current lads had an eye infection that wouldn't shift (it did eventually), an X-ray showed it was being caused by root elongation.

At this point he needs no care from me; he doesn't eat hay really so his poop is small but he gets weighed every other day to make sure he's still eating his pellets.
